🐯 White Tigers held at Hendon
Truro City’s Southern League Premier South title bid took another hit on Saturday as the White Tigers were held to a 2-2 draw at Hendon.
City are now five points behind leaders Weston-super-Mare after recording their sixth draw of the campaign in London, with goals from Connor Riley-Lowe and Ben Adelsbury not enough for Paul Wotton’s side.
⚽ Three in three: Riley-Lowe slides in at the back post to tap home a cross for his third goal in as many games. 0-1 (11’)
❌ Against the bar: City pass up a big chance for a second when a cross finds its way to Rocky Neal, who smashes the ball against the underside of the crossbar. 0-1 (24’)
⚽ Back level: The hosts equalise six minutes later when Joe White fires across goal and into the bottom corner for his seventh of the season. 1-1 (30’)
⚽ Turnaround: The Greens take the lead for the first time via a close-range finish from Frank Keita. 2-1 (53’)
⚽ Instant reply: City respond straight away with Will Dean’s free-kick being met by Adelsbury, who heads past home gloveman Hafed Al Droubi. 2-2 (55’)
📋 City: Hamon, Riley-Lowe, Adelsbury, Haste, Porter, Dean, Harvey (Wright 82), White, Knowles (Rice 73), Neal (Sullivan 58), Egan. Subs (unused): Okoro, Brett.
“I’m a little bit alarmed at the minute at the goals we’re conceding, teams aren’t having to work hard for them.
“We’ve got loads to work on. We’ve got to get back to basics, we’ve got to get back to working hard in training. We looked lethargic today.”
Paul Wotton’s side are now five points behind Weston-super-Mare after the Somerset club cruised to a 5-1 win at Harrow Borough. Third-placed Chesham United have closed the gap on City to one point with the Buckinghamshire side visiting the White Tigers this weekend…

⚽ Spot-kick: Wendron skipper Palmer gets his side off to an excellent start with his first of the season from the penalty spot. 0-1 (15’)

🏆 Senior Cup semi-final spots up for grabs
It’s the one they all want to win. The Cornwall Senior Cup returns this midweek with six sides bidding to join Helston Athletic in the final four of this year’s competition.
The Blues have already booked their place in the semi-finals after their scheduled quarter-final tie at Godolphin Atlantic was voided after the G sadly folded last week.
That means Matt Cusack’s side are safely through, but who will join them?
The quarter-final line-up:
Millbrook v Liskeard Athletic (Tuesday, 7.30pm): Arguably the tie of the round on paper, SWPL Premier West promotion candidates and eight-time cup winners Liskeard Athletic make the trip to mid-table Western League outfit Millbrook. Mackenzie Brown’s Millbrook side are one of two teams looking to lift the trophy for the first time.
Penzance v Wendron United (Wednesday, 7.30pm): SWPL Premier West tabletoppers Wendron United will be strong favourites for their tie at divisional rivals Penzance, who have lifted the cup ten times in their history. Michael O’Neill’s Wendron have lost just two of their 20 league games and defeated the Magpies 2-1 in their league game at Underlane in October.
Saltash United v Wadebridge Town (Wednesday, 7.30pm): This is another intriguing tie with Western League pacesetters and ten-time Senior Cup winners Saltash having had a bit of a wobble of late. That might be cause for optimism for Wadebridge Town - currently second in the SWPL Premier West - who are seeking their second Senior Cup crown.
⚽ The pick of this week’s grassroots action
First win: It’s been a difficult campaign for Porthleven but the west Cornwall side finally earned their first win of the St Piran League West season. A Jonty Wheatley effort and an own goal helped the Gala Parc outfit to a landmark 2-1 win at Perranwell.
Nine-goal epic: St Newlyn East are back on top of the East Cornwall Premier League after a thrilling 5-4 triumph at home to St Stephen. The leaders led 4-2 at the break through Dan Woodgate (2), Ben Lawrence and Owen London before the latter clinched the win late on, despite Hayden Doherty reducing the deficit to one with the 11th goal of the game in the final minutes.
Off the bottom: Chacewater hauled themselves off the foot of the Trelawny League Division 1 with only their second win of the season as they triumphed by the odd goal in five at home to relegation rivals Constantine. James Martin’s brace and Bradley Charles’ goal was enough for the village side to claim victory.
Unstoppable force: Falmouth DC continue to swat aside the competition in the Trelawny League Division 2 as the tabletoppers ran out 9-1 winners at Goonhavern Athletic reserves. Top scorer Jack Blakeston scored a four-timer to take his tally to 29 in just 12 games, with Brodie Kemp netting the other five to take his own total to 17 in five outings.

👩 Liskeard suffer narrow loss at Rovers
Liskeard Athletic’s first outing of 2023 ended with an agonising late defeat at Bristol Rovers in their South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division encounter on Sunday afternoon.
Lee Mann’s side had appeared to rescue a late point through new signing Jasmine Allen, only for the hosts to snatch a winner immediately from the restart and break Blues hearts…
⚽ Great start: Liskeard get their afternoon off to the ideal start with Chloe Williams putting the Blues in front. 1-0 (8’)
⚽ Pegged back: Rovers draw level with Laura Curnock firing into the net from Annys Turner’s low cross. 1-1 (25’)
⚽ Noses in front: Georgia Vandries is brought down and Libby Bell curls the free-kick past Blues goalkeeper Sara Rowe. 2-1 (72’)
⚽ Late leveller: Liskeard appear to rescue a late point when debutant Allen fires home in the final minute of the 90. 2-2 (90’)
⚽ Heartbreak: Ecstasy to agony as Rovers restore their lead from the restart with Zoe Fielden-Stewart running through to score. 3-2 (90+1’)
Elsewhere:
Lucky for some: Tori Marks scored six goals as Sticker put 13 past Activate to rise to the top of the SWRWFL Western Division. Gracie Davies (2), Morwenna Albury, Lauren Bennett, Kaitlyn Butterly-Reakes, Chloe Harris and Chloe Uren completed the rout.
At the summit: Penryn climbed to the top of the Cornwall Women’s Football League Division 2 with a narrow 2-1 victory at Padstow United. Bethany Churchill and Fran Geall scored as Penryn moved one point clear of St Agnes.
Five-star: Leesa Grainger bagged a five-timer for Callington Town as they ran out 6-2 winners over Dropship in their CWFL Division 2 encounter. Chloe Yorath completed the hosts’ scoring at Marshfield Parc.
Cup triumph: Gracie Stoneman scored twice as Bodmin defeated Bude Town 7-3 in their CWFL Cup second round tie at Callywith College. Elleny Chawner-Woods, Gemma Farley, Cally Hoskin and Karen Marsden also netted as Bodmin secured their place in the quarter-finals.

ST BLAZEY - River Allen unleashes an unstoppable strike from the edge of the box to cap off a fine 4-0 win for St Blazey at home to Camelford on Saturday. The four-goal victory puts the Green and Blacks up to third in the South West Peninsula League Premier West.
💚 Argyle held to goalless draw at Bolton
Things are still looking rosy for Plymouth Argyle despite the Pilgrims being held to a goalless draw at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
New signing Ben Waine - one of four new January additions at the time of writing - came closest with a header but Steven Schumacher’s side couldn’t find a way through at the University of Bolton Stadium.
❌ Wayward header: Adam Randell whips a free-kick into the box and finds the head of Sam Cosgrove, who nods the ball past the far post. 0-0 (54’)
🧤 Good block: Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has the hosts’ best chance thus far, with Mike Cooper doing brilliantly to block his effort from six yards. 0-0 (64’)
😱 Off the line: Randell crosses towards debutant Waine, whose header beats Bolton gloveman James Trafford and looks set to kiss the net until former Pilgrim Will Aimson produces a fine clearance off the line. 0-0 (87’)
❌ Against the post: Wanderers substitutes combine late on as Owen Beck puts through Elias Kachunga, whose strike crashes against the base of Cooper’s post. 0-0 (90’)
🟥 Red card: Joe Edwards picks up a second yellow card in stoppage time after catching Beck. 0-0 (90+6’)
📋 Argyle: Cooper, Houghton, Wilson, Scarr, Edwards, Mayor (Matete 66), Cosgrove (Hardie 57), Mumba (Earley 90), Randell, Lonwijk (Gillesphey 57), Wright (Waine 66). Subs (unused): Burton, Butcher.
“Ben is a bit of an unknown quantity. When he came on he gave us loads of energy; he was great when he came on. All his touches looked assured. I said to him: ‘Go on mate, go and score the winner in front of our fans, that’ll make you a hero’ and he almost did.”
- Argyle boss Steven Schumacher on new signing Ben Waine to pafc.co.uk
Argyle’s two main rivals were in FA Cup action, so the Pilgrims now have a seven-point cushion inside the automatic promotion places...
